It’s Your Story, Get Close to It (Part Two)

Dialogue (and the Art of Skipping the Boring Parts)

Saturday, April 27, 1-4pm

Presented by Crescent Dragonwagon

Dialogue — speech as spoken naturally between characters, in well-written form — makes narrative leap off the page. Done well, dialogue is lively and fun to read. Done well, it engages readers. Done well, dialogue also reveals character, and relationships between characters, as little else can. Done well, it moves plot forward smoothly and inevitably.

Done poorly, or not done at all, fiction and memoir, and many forms of non-fiction, lie flat and dull.

If you want to do dialogue and do it well, join this class. You’ll learn to listen to speech more effectively, and when, how, and where to use it in writing. You’ll discover how to create written speech that is unstilted and real, yet still achieves action and serves your story. Whether you’re an experienced writer and just starting out, you will hone and brighten your skills in writing revelatory, engaging, energized talk on the page. Your readers will thank you.
